Details
The Paithani border is one of the great crossings in Indian textile history — a weaving technique originating in Maharashtra that Banarasi weavers have absorbed and reinterpreted over centuries into their own idiom. The result, in this saree, is a border that carries the characteristic peacock and mango motifs of Paithani weaving but rendered in the dense zari of Banarasi craft: a confluence of two great traditions in a single piece. Nargis Fakhri chose it for exactly this quality of depth.
Woven in Banarasi Silk in Varanasi, the Paithani-inspired border in this saree is worked in pure zari using the tapestry weaving method — each colour and motif individually interlocked during weaving. The body carries a complementary ground weave that allows the border to remain the visual anchor of the composition.
