Details
The Nandi motif — drawn from the sacred bull of Shaivite tradition — appears in Banarasi weaving as a rare and deeply rooted design element: angular, structured, and carrying a weight of meaning that most decorative motifs simply do not possess. This saree takes that motif and places it in the border repeat in pure zari, giving a piece that is both deeply traditional and visually striking. Taapsee Pannu's choice of it speaks to the kind of craft knowledge that goes beyond surface appeal.
Woven in pure Banarasi Katan Silk in Varanasi, the Nandi border is worked in gold and silver zari using the traditional kadwa technique — each motif individually formed during weaving. The body of the saree carries a complementary buti or jaal ground, making the border the architectural frame for an already-rich composition.
